Toe Walking

When Ethan started walking 1 week after his 1st birthday he has walked on his toes. At first his pediatricians didn't think too much about it. They just kept saying they will keep an eye on it. By his 3 year check up they started giving me stretches to do on his feet. By his 4th birthday his pediatrician referred him to a specialist. They put him in hard casts for 4 weeks to stretch the tendons so he wont be forced to walk on his toes. After the 4 weeks he did GREAT! It took him a couple weeks to build back up his muscle tone in his legs but he did really good for about a year. At his 6 year check up his pediatrician was concerned again and referred him back to the specialist. Luckily the casts they put him in now aren't like the casts he was in before. We are able to take these casts off for bed and showers. The point of the casts is to stretch his feet all the way down so he wont have to have surgery on his tendons later. He has been such a trooper. He was pretty embarrassed to wear them at first. Thinking the kids were going to make fun of him. Luckily he has a great group of friends at school. I hope this will be the last time he'll have to wear casts but I also want to avoid surgery at all cost!
