Sleep Study

For the last couple of years we've had a real problem trying to get Ethan to stay focused, it was hard for him to focus at school, at home, simple step by step directions he would lose track of what he was supposed to do. He would then be real hard on himself. First grade for Ethan was a struggle trying to keep him focused. Academically he did awesome. He would say he was tired all the time, lay his head down on his desk, fall asleep on the way home from school almost every day. We've been to doctors when we had Kaiser to see what could possibly be the problem since he was getting at least 10-12 hours of sleep a night. The ENT specialist for Kaiser said there was nothing wrong. I knew that wasn't true. Finally in January we switched insurance companies to Providence and within a week of him seeing his "new-old" doctor, (she was his Doctor since birth to age 2.5) he had an appointment for allergy testing, MRI to check his sinuses, and a referral to a sleep clinic. He came back with NO allergies, a bad sinus infection and a sleep study scheduled.

He had his sleep study 2 weeks ago and got the results less then a week later. He has sleep apnea. Normal for his age is less then 1 episode an hour. Ethan had 1.9 episodes per hour. His specialist said that if they have more then 1 an hour he will most likely have to get his tonsils and adenoids out. They have him referred to another specialist at OHSU. We'll see what they say but I'm hoping that we can get this all figured out before school starts and hopefully before baby William comes in 5 weeks.
